Website Design Marlborough & Nelson

Websites designed around your business

A good website should do more than look attractive. It should clearly communicate what your business does, make it easy for people to find what they need and help turn visitors into customers.

At Blueflowers, we design professional websites for businesses and organisations throughout Nelson, Marlborough and beyond. Every project starts with understanding your business, your customers and what you want the website to achieve.

We've been designing websites since 2002, but we don't expect our clients to understand all the technology behind them. We'll explain the options, recommend what makes sense and keep the process as straightforward as possible.

New website or time for a fresh start?

Some clients come to us with a new business and nothing more than an idea. Others already have a website that has served them well but is beginning to show its age.

We can help with both.

For a new website, we'll work with you to plan the structure, organise the content and create a design that suits your business.

For an existing website, we'll look at what's worth keeping and what could be improved. Good photographs, useful content and established search visibility don't need to be thrown away simply because the design or technology needs updating.

A redesign can give an established website a fresh start while preserving the value it has built up over the years.

A website you can update yourself

You shouldn't have to contact a web designer every time you want to change a sentence or add a photograph.

The websites we build can be updated by their owners, and we can show you how to look after the everyday content you want to manage yourself.

But you don't have to.

Some clients prefer us to take care of everything. Others make most of their own changes and contact us when something more complicated comes along. Many use a combination of the two.

There's no right or wrong way — we'll work whichever way suits you and your business.

More than just pages and pictures

Sometimes a website simply needs to present a business clearly and encourage people to get in touch. Sometimes it needs to do considerably more.

Over the years we've built websites incorporating:

  • Online enquiry and application forms
  • Booking and availability systems
  • Event registrations
  • Membership systems and subscriptions
  • Online payments
  • Email newsletters
  • Photo and project galleries
  • Members-only information
  • Document libraries and downloads
  • Online shops

We focus on functionality that has a genuine purpose. There's little value in adding complicated features that your business or customers don't actually need.

Designed for the way people use the web

Your customers may find your website on a desktop computer, tablet or phone — and increasingly it's the phone they reach for first.

Our websites are responsive, adapting to different screen sizes so content remains clear, navigation remains straightforward and important information is easy to find.

We also consider page structure, readability, image optimisation and performance as part of the build rather than treating them as afterthoughts.

Getting found starts with a good website

Search engine optimisation and website design belong together.

A clear structure, useful content, descriptive headings, internal links and technically sound pages all help search engines understand what your website is about.

We build good SEO foundations into new websites from the outset and can help develop content and improve search visibility further where required.

For businesses operating in competitive markets, that work can continue after the website launches as we learn more about how people are finding it and where opportunities exist.

What does a website cost?

Every website is different, so we don't force projects into packages containing things you may not need.

A straightforward small-business website naturally costs less than a website requiring bookings, memberships, ecommerce or extensive custom functionality.

We'll talk through what you're trying to achieve, identify what's actually required and give you a clear idea of cost before we begin.

If you're working within a particular budget, tell us. We can often find a sensible way to concentrate on what's important now and leave less essential additions until later.

The aim is simple: pay for what you need, not what you don't.

A straightforward web design process

You don't need to arrive with a finished site map, perfectly written text and every photograph prepared.

We'll help work out what the website needs and guide the project through planning, design, content and development.

You'll be able to see the website taking shape and provide feedback as we work. Once everything is ready, we'll take care of getting the new site live.

And that's not where our involvement has to end.

We're still here after launch

One of the advantages of working with Blueflowers is continuity.

We can host your website, keep its software up to date, help with email and backups, make changes when required and continue working on its content and SEO as your business evolves.

Some of our clients have been with us for many years. When they need something, they can contact people who already know their website and their business rather than starting again with an anonymous support desk.

Thinking about a new website?

Whether you're starting from scratch, replacing an ageing website or simply wondering whether your current site could be doing more for your business, we'd be happy to talk.

Tell us a little about what you have in mind and we'll help you work out the next step.
